Donor Challenges

$100,000 Brennan-Kania Faculty Fellows Fund

Thanks to the generous support of Ed Leahy ’68, H’01 and his wife, Patricia, we have created the Brennan-Kania Faculty Fellows Fund program, a landmark initiative that will give our faculty members the financial support necessary to ensure that they continue to provide our students with the transformative education opportunities that have become synonymous with the Kania School of Management (KSOM).

Ed and Patricia feel so strongly about the need for this initiative that they have agreed to double their initial match of $50,000 up to an additional $50,000, which will potentially provide our outstanding faculty with significant resources.

$25,000 Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Initiatives

Betsy and Jim Slattery '86, former Chair, Board of Trustees, will generously match gifts up to $25,000 for our campus' Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives, which include:

  • PILLAR program (Partners in Learning, leadership and reflection)
  • Faculty training to support neurodivergent students
  • Diverse Student Faith Formation Retreats and Service Learning
  • THR1VE (1st generation college students)

Making our campus a safe and inclusive space is paramount to our Jesuit mission and tradition. These initiatives provide resources, support, and training for faculty, staff and students to promote three basic principles of a safe and welcoming campus: Equity, Diversity and Inclusivity.

$25,000 Opening Doors Scholarship

Betsy and Jim Slattery '86, have also generously agreed to match gifts up to $25,000 for the Opening Doors Scholarship Fund, which provides financial aid for students seeking to enroll at The University of Scranton from the Cristo Rey Network of High Schools, from Arrupe College, and from other institutions with a similar mission. It will assist those students with any unmet financial needs after all other sources of financial aid and scholarship have been determined, allowing them a fully-funded Scranton education.

$10,000 The Gary N. Wodder, Ph.D. Scholarship

Friends and family members of Dr. Gary Wodder have come together to offer a match of up to $10,000 in gifts to The Gary N. Wodder, Ph.D. Scholarship Fund, which will provide financial assistance to students studying Kinesiology, just one of the programs that Gary started at this University.

$10,000 Dr. Jack Beidler Memorial Scholarship

Thanks to an anonymous donor, along with Dr. Beidler's four children, gifts of up to $10,000 will be matched for the Dr. Jack Beidler Memorial Scholarship Fund, which provides financial aid to incoming students majoring in Computer Science.

$5,000 Athletics Team Challenge

Each year, nearly 400 students participate in intercollegiate athletics at Scranton, proudly representing our school and community. Our goal is to provide our students, coaches and teams with a truly transformative experience that is reflective of our Jesuit identity. For the Athletics Team Challenge, coaches and student-athletes compete to win $5,000 in additional gifts for their team by collecting the most donors by midnight on 5.06!
